Hi Amit,

What is your application for EPICS?

You might be interested in knowing about the EPICS "synApps" package. It provides drivers for many devices like motors, counters, etc. plus additional useful records.

synApps uses some other useful modules like asyn:

and StreamDevice

Hi,

I made a couple of changes in the 'stdio.h' file in WindRiver installation.

After that the make process completed successfully without any errors.
Thus it seems that EPICS base has got compiled for VxWorks 6.9

Now we seek suggestions as to how to proceed further from this point as in
integrating EPICS with VxWorks Image and building applications that makes
use of EPICS features.

Thanks & Regards,
Amit.

Hi Amit,

I am confused. In your previous post the error message was:

***************************************************************
But now the make process is stopping with following errors related to a file
named 'epicsSingleton.h' :

make[1]: Leaving directory `C:/EPICS/base-3-14-12-4/src'
***************************************************************

You did not send the complete error output, but it appears that the error
was in compiling epicsOnce.cpp for the win32-x86 architecture. Note that it
was leaving directory C:/EPICS/base-3-14-12-4/src/libCom/O.win32-x86, which
is not the directory where it builds for vxWorks.

However, in today's post you don't have a problem there, it appears to have
built epicsOnce.cpp for win32-x86 successfully. Why? What is different
from the other day?

You are now having a problem with the vxWorks cross-compiler when compiling
epicsEvent.cpp. The error messages appear to be internal conflicts in the
vxWorks stdio.h file.

C:/WindRiver/vxworks-6.9/target/h/stdio.h:318: error: declaration of C
function
'int oprintf(int (*)(...), _Vx_usr_arg_t, const char*, ...)' conflicts with
C:/WindRiver/vxworks-6.9/target/h/stdio.h:206: error: previous declaration
'int
oprintf(int (*)(char*, size_t, _Vx_usr_arg_t), _Vx_usr_arg_t, const char*,
...)'
 here

I think you will need to study stdio.h to understand under what
circumstances line 318 and line 206 can generate different definitions of
oprintf. Since most of us do not have access to that vxWorks include file
you probably need to figure this out yourself, or with help from Wind River.

Subject: RE: EPICS on VxWorks6.9

Dear Mark,

This is further to our trials of compiling EPICS for 'VxWorks 6.9'

We ran the 'make' from Visual Studio (2010) Command Prompt.

I am attaching following with this mail:

(1) CONFIG_SITE.Common.vxWorksCommon : This is the only file we have
modified.

(2) make_output.txt : output of the make process (with error message
appended at the bottom )

(3) errMsg.jpg : This is a pop-up message we encountered 42 times towards
the end of 'make' . We had to press 'OK' everytime to proceed.

During this trial no changes were made related to the ringPointer.

We would just like to add that when we are buidling EPICS base 3.14.12.4
with Visual Studio 2010 for 'Windows' as target, we are not encountering any
errors.

It is just that when we select 'vxWorks' as target the problems arise.

Hi Amit,

I have not heard back from you about this.

As I said, many people including me are building EPICS base 3.14.12.4 with
Visual Studio 2010 and are not seeing the errors you are seeing. So there
must be something different about your configuration.

Mark

Hi Amit,

I think the fact that you are building for vxWorks 6.9 is not relevant. It
is failing when building for the host, which is win32-x86. But you are
using Visual Studio 2010, which many of us are using without any problems.

Please do the following:

At the top level of base type:

make realclean realuninstall

Then type

make

and send the complete output when it fails.

Also please tell us what files you have modified in base/configure/os, and
how you have changed them.

Mark

Hi,

Thanks to Mark and Dirk for taking their time out to dwell into the problem.

I am using Visual Studio 2010.

As suggested, I have NOT removed volatile keyword, but I have type casted
buffer as :

delete [ ] (T**) buffer;

As a result the make process has progressed beyond the point where it was
flagging error related to ringpointer.

But now the make process is stopping with following errors related to a file
named 'epicsSingleton.h' :

I am relatively new to EPICS and for the first time trying to build it for
VxWorks.
Suggestions to resolve these issues will be of help.

That change was done in EPICS base 3.14.10 in 2008. We have certainly built
a lot on Windows since then!

The question is what version of Visual Studio is Amit using? He did not
tell us that in the original post. I have used Visual Studio 2008 and 2010
to compile base since 2008 and have not had this problem. I suspect that
Amit is using a more recent version of Visual Studio?

In that case the volatile needs to be removed for the delete, because it
seems that the compiler thinks that there is no delete operator for
arrays of volatiles and implicitly converting volatile away is
considered impossible.

I just see that this is not a problem with vxWorks 6.9 but with the
Windows host build.

Eric, have you tested your change with Windows?
