Hi Philip,
You might look at a number of recent presentations in EPICS and
ICALEPCS¹13 conferences, for example:
http://www.epics2013.org/dms/EPICS2013/presentations/friday/Session_1/IFC_1
210.ppt
and
http://www.epics2013.org/dms/EPICS2013/presentations/friday/Session_1/AD84-
EPICS-workshop-2013.ppt
I also gave a talk in the ICALEPCS¹13. Those proceedings are not published
yet but please contact me if you want to see them.
At PSI (I recently moved to ESS, though) we decided to use the ELDK as the
development platform. There are a few systems in operation already, in
test facilities but nevertheless in continuous use.
Using Linux rather than a RTOS (I have no RTEMS experience, I can only
compare with vxWorks) is quite a different thing, there is some learning
curve doing a proper separation of kernel and user space drivers, for
example. On the other hand, many other things then become much easier.
Running EPICS on top of that is rather simple.
Best regards,
Timo
