For building an IOC that uses asyn, autosave, streamDevice, and std I would recommend just downloading the synApps module:

http://www.aps.anl.gov/bcda/synApps/

If you do that then everything is all set up for you, with dependencies between modules, and a top-level Makefile.  I also has instructions on how to install and build it:

http://www.aps.anl.gov/bcda/synApps/synApps_5_7.html

For extensions you only need to the Top file, not the Configure file.  You install that, and then install the individual extensions under extensions/src.  You edit extensions/configure/RELEASE to set the path to EPICS base and some other things.  Then you run make at the top level of extensions.

Subject: Epics installation

Hello,
Presently i am working on system already installed EPICS.  I started and learning with developing computer serial port driver.
Now i want to establish another system.  I tried to install epics extension and modules.  But can't understand how to install extension and modules.

I downloaded extensionsTop_20120904.tar.gz, and extensionsConfigure_20070703.tar.gz  but don't know what to do with this.
I also downloaded asyn4-21.tar.gz, autosave_R5-1.tar.gz ,  camonitor_cvs.tar.gz ,  StreamDevice-2-6.tgz , std_R3-2.tar.gz   etc but don't know how to install it ...
Is it enough to just untar all these modules?

Thank you
