And, you need to put these records into an EPICS IOC. MEDM will be used to visualize and control the process variables (PVs) of that IOC (for example, see the figure Mark provided). The PVs, provided by the various records in the IOC, will provide controls and responses for the components you need for your intended application.

I think you are asking the wrong question. You don’t need a special
medm widget for that, the standard widgets can be used.

You do probably need 2 things:

1) A feedback record. The EPICS epid record can be used for this. It
can read the temperature from your readout device and control the power
to a power supply using a D/A converter, for example.

2) Some other record or client to control the setpoint of the feedback
record. You could use the sscan record in table mode to generate an
arbitrary temperature profile, for example. Or you could use a client
like Python, IDL, etc.

I have attached a screen shot of one of our temperature control
screens. At the time I took this screen shot the thermocouple was
broken, so the temperature reading is meaningless, but you get the idea.

Hi All,

I need to use MEDM application for building a programmable temperature
controller. That is the system should be able to heat some fluid at some
pre determined temperature for a period and increase the temperature to
a higher value and keep it for some period.

I could not find any widget that i can use for this application. It is
appreciated if you could give me some guidance on the above.

Thanks & Regards,

Nalaka
