Before diving into developing a "site-specific product" (see

> -What are software component needed for creating a development
environment for fully flagged CSS-EPICS project.
You need git to checkout CSS and Eclipse (for RCP Developers) to craft your
product and provide custom code (in Java).

> -In which software(CSS or eclipse) major development(programming) will be
done. And what are the packages needed for both CSS and eclipse.
Development is done in Java with Eclipse RCP. You have to be familiar with
the Rich Client Platform, esp. the plugin/feature structure and product
build.
CSS needs Eclipse which needs Java. In order to use CSS you should have a
working epics infrastructure as well.

What do you mean with EPICS related task ? In CSS you have BOY to control
and monitor, EPICS itself has als cli utils like caget,caput,camonitor.

I think you are referring to JCA vs CAJ. Maybe someone else can help you
with that.
As for the which Linux is better. Well thats like "ask x people and get x+
answers". I think
both offer the required libraries to build an EPICS system and have OpenJDK
integrated to
run and compile Java. As for anything else they are both desktop linux
systems (one is rpm based, the other apt...).
I would recommend the one you (or the one administering it) is familiar
with.
