I'm developing softIOC on: Raspberry, BeagleBoneBlack and Aria.
I've an application designed to hundred of this kind of IOCs and like you I don't know what could happen using those on production, more than this:

What is the smartest and flexible and robust bus to adds I/O on arm embedded ?

This kind of hardware could have a great future,
shall we try to select a common hw to share the developments effort ?
..open on sourceforge and "EPICSonARM" repo maybe a first step sharing the code
