Hi Mark - thanks for the response. Up to now I haven't been - just been going to the extensions/src directory (under which the MEDM files are located) and entering "make". But after receiving your email I went to that location and tried "make -j" - with the same results (Too many open files).

Are you using parallel make, i.e. "make -j"?

Mark

Successfully compiled EPICS R3.15.0.1 in Cygwin (Windows 7 platform) , but when I try to subsequently compile MEDM 3.1.7 it fails with:

<.....>/base/extensions/configure/CONFIG:12: ../configure/RELEASE: Too many open files
<.....>/base/extensions/configure/CONFIG:21: <.....>/base/extensions/configure/CONFIG: Too many open files
<.....>/base/extensions/configure/CONFIG:25: ../configure/CONFIG_SITE: Too many open files
<.....>/base/extensions/configure/RULES_DIRS:3: <.....>/base/extensions/configure/RULES_DIRS: Too many open files
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

Not sure, but this seems to be a stack size problem which in a Linux environment could be solved with the "ulimit" command, but in Cygwin that command apparently doesn't work - I get "cannot modify limit: Invalid argument." Does anybody have a suggestion how I can get MEDM to compile in Cygwin?

Thanks,
Mark
