Just to clarify, STTR are grants for scientific technologies transfer (or simple collaboration) between US national labs and private sector.

I am working for an private company.

As such, we qualify for SBIR or STTR grants from the DOE (NIH, NSF ...)

Does any one of you have experience with software/computer-based grants in the US?

If so, I would be interested in talking with you ASAP.
