Hi Matt,

The APS is building an EPICS system to monitor floor vibration using the USB devices from Measurement Computing. Here are links to a few models:

http://www.mccdaq.com/usb-data-acquisition/USB-1608FS-Plus.aspx

http://www.mccdaq.com/usb-data-acquisition/USB-1608G-Series.aspx

They are in the range of $400 to $800 for 8 to 16-channels, 16-bit.

They accept an external trigger so you can synchronize multiple units.

My EPICS software for the Measurement Computing modules is here:

http://cars9.uchicago.edu/software/epics/measCompDoc.html

Bad news: My driver is Windows-only
Good news: They do have a Linux SDK
Bad news: The Linux SDK is written in C#, so it needs the "mono" compiler, and I don't think it can be used from C or C++ EPICS code.
Good news: The Linux SDK is itself open-source, so it could be re-written in C++.

Cheers,
Mark

Subject: Data acquisition for ICP accelerometers

Hi,

Has anyone worked with vibration monitoring and analysis in
EPICS? We're looking for a digitizing system with 24 or more
channels and dynamic range of 96 dB or higher. Our sensors are
ICP accelerometers with resolution down to 50 ug's (uV) and
sensitivity of 1V/g.

It seems there are plenty of 'turn-key' systems out there with
Windows only. For example, this is a good fit but no linux/epics.

Thanks,
-Matt
