On the Newport XPS we switch UEIP back and forth, depending on whether we want the RBV field to hold the theoretical position or encoder position.  Sometimes one does not want to see the encoder jitter, sometimes one does.  This can be changed at run-time with medm, etc.

Thanks for the info.  I guess that means my motor records that
use the pmacAsynMotor driver are configured incorrectly for what
I want (i.e. having the RBV field reflect the position reported
by the encoder). :-(  I'll try changing them to have UEIP set to
