Host-side macro expansion can be done by 'msi':

I agree that it would be nice to be able to pass a macro-defnintion string to dbLoadTemplate.

Hi all,
I want to add a prefix to all PV names on my IOC. I definitely want a
central place where this prefix can be changed (e.g. defined in st.cmd).
Although this is easy to accomplish with dbLoadRecords and macro
substitution, it seems to be much more difficult if records are loaded
with dbLoadTemplate (because dbLoadTemplate does not support macro
substitution in template files). I found a thread about using multiple
levels of substitution
(http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/2008/msg00014.php) but I still
cannot believe that such an easy thing could be that complicated...

I also read about host side macro expansion
(http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/2007/msg00689.php) but didn't
find out how to use that. Can someone please give me a hint?

Any other ideas how to add a prefix are greatly appreciated, too.
