HI,

Tanks for all the answers. We will probably go with a PMC/XMC because more DAQ modules are availabe.

Bye,

Ursa,
I can confirm your findings, COTS cPCI or cPCIe hardware is very
limited. The more popular bus standards are VME, PXI(e), PC-104.
I've heard some rumblings about microTCA but haven't seen any
products.

Not sure what type of hardware you're after. We've used cPCI
transient digitizers by D-Tacq, (not in EPICS but it has limited EPICS
support). You might look for cPCI carrier boards, then you can use PMC
or IndustryPack I/O boards.

Hi Michael

Thanks for the reply. Yes I know that from the software side there are not
many differences (backwards compatibility and all). I guess that my question
was not so clear.

The biggest problem we have is in finding the hardware - simple DAQ boards
an so on. There are PXIe boards, but to find a cPCIe multipurpose DAQ board
turned out to be quite the challenge. Even for the CPU there are not so many
manufacturers (MEN elektronics have cPCIe , than mostly PXIe cpu boards by
NI, Adlink, geotest). I know that PXIe can be used as a cPCIe (some
additional synchronization features of PXI are lost), but when looking for
pure cPCIe the resources seem to be quite limited. So I thought I'd post
here, If anyone else has had experience with setting up a cPCIe system (from
hardware point of view).

Hello Urša,

When you speak with software developers you may not hear PCIe explicitly
mentioned often. For software there is (intentionally) little difference
between PCI and PCIe.

In our server systems we use PMC modules with a PMC-PCIe carrier card.
This presents a transparent bridge. No software changes were required to
accommodate this.

Dear all,

I am looking for comments and suggestions on cPCIe. Do you use any cPCIe
modules as part of your contols? Could you tell me the module name,
manufacturer?

I have been looking at tech talk and cPCI express is not mentioned. Is
nobody using it?

Any help would be appreciated.
