Pavel,
The popular OS for soft IOC is Linux-x86 and x86_64, WinXP_32 (can't
comment on Win7, or 32/64 bit support). For real-time: vxWorks,
RTEMS, and a few years back there was a RHEL-based RedHawk Linux. We
use RHEL here for corporate reasons, but CentOS is supposed to be the
same (only better/more current).
I'd be interested to hear what others say about CSS being better under
Windows; I know it runs on Linux, and I vastly prefer to avoid Windows
for controls applications. Does CSS run on MacOS?
The IOC doesn't have a GUI, only a command line terminal. The GUI
(e.g. CSS) runs on a client machine. Depending on your IOC's
application, it should be OK to run the client (CSS) and server (IOC)
on the same physical box. Although, I have never done that.
