However MEDM is based on MOTIF and X11, systems/libraries that are getting into age.

In reading this thread, I began to wonder what place Qt has in relation to X11.  I've heard of Qt for many years but know little about it.  After a little research, my impression that Qt always runs on top of a windowing system.  As far as I can tell, the only currently widely accepted and used cross-platform windowing system is the X Window System.  And X11 is the latest and long-time incarnation of the X Window System-- they're really synonyms.

The widget toolkit that generally comes with X11 is Xt (in fact Qt's name is modeled after Xt).  Motif and Xaw use Xt.  Xt, GTK+, and Qt all use Xlib, the X11 library (Qt can use other window systems).

So I believe that Anton's statement above would more precise with "Motif and Xt".

Having used Motif and Xt many years ago, I can see why other widget toolkits could be more attractive-- of late, I've primarily used Tk, Java Swing, EDD, and EDM.
