Hello Martin,

Like BESSY, we at PSI are using Nagios for everything related to IT infrastructure. Mainly because our IT department already uses Nagios and everything needed was already in place. Our IT experts always have an eye on Nagios but never run the alarm handler or any other EPICS tool. In EPICS on the other hand you will see many alarms when the network breaks. Another alarm for the network cable will probably not help much.

Hello,

We are in process of installing new single mode fiber optics cable in our LANSCE User Facility and
have the
opportunity to invest in some network monitoring soft and hardware.

So, I was wondering what people are using to monitor their fiber and twisted pair controls network
from the switch and
router level all the way down to the device level?

What are the pros and cons of that system?

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Martin
