I now have access to a machine running a 64-bit kernel for testing.
I talked to one of our Mac experts; apparently it's only fairly recently that
we've been able to use the 64-bit kernels on which "uname -m" reports x86_64
for the CPU type, which is why our EpicsHostArch scripts weren't expecting
that as a response. This has also caused IT problems with other packages,
which is why all our Macs here have been defaulted to using the 32-bit kernel
for now.
Oh, and apparently we even have some machines whose CPU is 64-bit capable but
the bootloader is not and it can't be upgraded.
The edits to fix the startup scripts are fairly simple, I'll put up a patch on
the Known Problems page shortly.
Thanks to everyone who helped track down this little issue.
