Thanks for the input everyone.

The spectrum record (in waveProc) is *almost* what I want, except that it takes real data instead of complex. I'll keep it in mind for the next time.

In this case I'm running on Linux.  So I'll try aSub w/ fftw first.

The only extra I need to implement is a frequency scale
