No, the subnets can be different sizes, but all of the machines with 
interfaces on the subnet have to agree about the size of that subnet so that 
all of their broadcast addresses match.  I'm guessing that your eth0 subnet 
hasn't been configured to be the same size on the client machines as it has on 
the server (this machine).  You need to look at the client's configurations as 
well and correct them as necessary and then I think you'll find they should 
connect properly.
