yes, i support various moxa device servers and have found this out as well and
had to adjust because of it. a few years ago, another 'annoyance' i found is that
if you are logged in through the web interface (password protected), but still have
an instance of the browser (internet explorer or firefox) or another tab is open, the
connection is still alive and you do not need a password. this was a security issue
for us. fortunately, moxa has addressed this and provided a fix, but i don't think it made it into the product line. recent purchases i've made of device servers still have
this behavior and had to apply the fix.

Hi all,

We have recently been investigating options for controlling serial
devices via a terminal server. We particularly want the ability to
software switch between RS-232/RS-422/RS-485. One that has this
capability and seems to be generally recommended by the EPICS community
is the MOXA NP6650 32-port device server.

However, after buying one to evaluate, we discovered an annoying
'feature': to change the settings of a serial port over the web
interface (baud rate etc) requires a reboot of the server, which of
course disrupts communications on all ports (and actually crashes my
soft IOC, though this might be a streamDevice issue...).

We wondered if anybody else has also come across this problem? If so
have you found a way of getting around it, or do you have any other
recommendations? I have contacted MOXA technical support about the
issue, but they don't seem prepared to fix it.

Thanks in advance,
Emma
