Assuming by string you mean a normal 40 character DBF_STRING the waveform 
record can hold an array of any type and size.  If you want more than one of 
them an aSub can hold up to 42 arrays of any type and size (21 input fields A 
.. U and 21 output fields VALA .. VALU).
