Kurt,

Good question.

OMS believes, but is not 100% certain, that MAXv boards with
s/n 575 and less are not effected by this "manufacturer component
change" problem. (I am guessing this may be do to their inability
to track exactly which boards have which versions of a component
or component combinations.)

My suggestion is that if a MAXv board experiences a watchdog
timeout, that board should definitely be returned to OMS for repair.
(I addressed detecting a watchdog timeout in an earlier tech-talk
post here.) Otherwise, if your MAXv board's s/n is less that 575,
and you are NOT experiencing any problems, I see not reason to
return it to OMS for repair at this time.

Ron,

Phil Brown's letter implies that there is a range of boards affected,
because the problem started when "a change in a component by the
manufacturer ... worked into our supply".  So there is a lower limit
to the serial numbers, below which we don't need to worry about
the problem.  Does OMS know, in terms of serial numbers, about
where the problem crept in?  I don't want to send back any boards
unnecessarily.

Thanks,
Kurt

With their permission, I am passing along an announcement
from OMS concerning the reliability of their MAXv motor controller.

The short synopsis is; there was a problem, they have diagnosed it,
all boards after s/n 966 are fixed and they are offering to fix any boards
before s/n 967 for free.
