Hello Dirk,
Actually here we use two embedded computers with x86 processor from
Moxa, DA-682 and DA-710. DA-682 is 2U high with 2 PCI expansion slots
which supports up to 16 serial ports. DA-710 is 4U high with 4 PCI
expansion slots which supports up to 32 serial ports. In addition,
DA-710 also comes with 2 serial ports. The main difference besides is
that DA-710 has dual power input. Both these two models come with VGA,
USB, CompactFlash.
Regards,
Huijuan

Hello Dirk,
For me using Moxa DA66x, there's no major problem in the cross
compiling, just need some configurations to build
cross-compiler(xscale_be) and EPICS base(i.e. specify
'CROSS_COMPILER_TARGET_ARCHS', 'GNU_DIR', etc.).
Yes, the NFS server is running on the Moxa box.
Another alternative for computer with multiple serial ports would be
Moxa DA-710 (http://www.moxa.com/product/DA-710.htm ). It's x86
processor and more powerful than little ARM. It comes with 4 Ethernet
ports and 2 RS-232. If need more serial ports, buy the 8-port
RS-232/422/485 expansion module cards (they have 'serial optical
isolation' version) and insert the modules into DA-710 PCI slots(~4).
DA-710 can be shipped with Debian/Linux on a hard-disk so that we can
take advantage of EPICS Debian packages(i.e. base, softioc, procserv,
iocstats, etc.) available from NSLS-2(http://epics.nsls2.bnl.gov/debian/
).
Cheers,
Yong
