Hi,

I've been looking at an areaDetector driver for GigE Vision compliant cameras. Several manufacturers produce SDKs (normally tied to hardware ordered from themselves) that will talk to any GigE vision camera, unfortunately there are many licensing issues with producing an open source SDK that implements the standard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GigE_vision

Having said this, there appears to be a reverse engineered solution using the gnome libraries:
I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know about the legalities of reverse engineering a closed standard to create open source software.

I tried out an early version of this on a Fedora machine, and was able to make it talk to a prosilica (AVT) camera, but ran out of time to do anything apart from run the test program. Both your cameras seem to be GigE Vision compliant, so this may be a route that's worth pursuing...

Hi Tracy,

Those cameras are not currently supported as far as I know.  Unfortunately it is not yet possible to write a generic driver for GigE cameras, so a different driver must be written for each vendor’s cameras using their SDK library.

It is not very difficult to write a driver, so if you want to use those cameras you could do that.

Mark
