- specify, design, develop, and maintain software for scientific data analysis, modeling, and visualization. - identify specific needs in APS user community for scientific software. - collaborate with domestic and foreign scientific community to coordinate integration, development and maintenance of software packages. - work within software services group to integrate beamline technique-specific analysis software with overall experimental work flow architecture. The candidate must have comprehensive verbal and report writing skills, comprehensive knowledge of x-ray and/or neutron data analysis (or equivalent). Also comprehensive computer programming experience in higher-level languages including Java, Python, C, C++, FORTRAN, as well as experience and familiarity in developing interactive programs and graphical user interfaces. The candidate must have considerable knowledge of high-performance computing and software engineering techniques and practices. These levels of knowledge and skills are typically achieved with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Biosciences plus six or more years experience assisting users in an X-ray or neutron beamline environment, or the equivalent. Ph.D. and 6-10 years experience or Masters and 8-12 years or Bachelors with 12+ years experience required.
