But procServ does so much more!  It is really easy to use (it has about as many arguments as script).  The real advantage is that you do not have to keep a terminal window open: besides saving the output to a file, it listens on a telnet port so you can 'get back to the console'.  Thus, you log out once your soft IOC is up and running (or even have it started upon reboot/power-up).  And it will restart that IOC, should it crash.  If fact, a nice way to get a 'soft reboot' is to have a subroutine record which calls 'exit' for you.  (See iocAdmin/devIocStats for that.)

Besides, it is quite easy to 'download + compilation + read doc'.
