I'm sure you've seen how hard it is to find people who know both systems well enough to comment intelligently and comparatively. I know very little about TANGO. Probably you've already seen the following links, which seem to me to be reasonably objective, and at least partially relevant to your question: http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S092037961000030X http://www.lnf.infn.it/conference/pcapac2002/TALK/TH-02/TH-O2_talk.pdf http://www.tango-controls.org/Events/meetings/May2009/News_from_ESRF.ppt http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~jad/cs/ACS_top.html I've been using EPICS for a long time -- since around 1994. I like it. I like it a lot. It's fun to work with, and I've been able to do what I've wanted to do with it, though at times I've waited for new features to be added, and at times I've written code that departs from guidelines. I've gotten a lot of help from other EPICS developers, I've used a *lot* of other people's code, and I've been able to find people who already knew enough about EPICS to begin working with it immediately.
