Note that DBF_LONG maps to an epicsInt32 which is a 32 bit signed value on all
architectures, even where long is 64 bits wide. The signed part is pretty
much unavoidable, since Channel Access doesn't provide unsigned types, but you
can often arrange for your client to cast the result to an unsigned anyway.
