Hi Emmanuel,
Sorry to jump into this conversation mid-stream...
I am new to state machine scripting tools, but will soon be coming up to
speed on the use of Python here at the Advanced Photon Source (APS).
I would be interested in sharing ideas with you in the future on
Python-built scientific software applications, if you don't mind my
rookie questions.

Exactly, with SEQ/SNL you can only call C routines.
I would say that's part of the problem. It is too low level.

That's a relative new powerful framework, but it may still be too much code (i.e not visual enough) for complex state machines.
