Is it possible to use labCA to retrieve arrays larger than 16K?

I have EPICS_CA_MAX_ARRAY_BYTES set to a large number and verified that caget will retrieve a large array but labCA 3.1 returns an error.

data= lcaGet('IBLEMS01_data', 120000);
Initializing labCA Release '$Name: labca_3_1 $'...
