Hello Liu Ping,

I can address the firmware upgrade of the old board that you have. The controller with firmware version 1.31 must be returned to our facility to upgrade the firmware. Our customer service department can provide an RMA number and the address to send the controller to (customer.service@Pro-Dex.com or 1-800-707-8111).

Best regards,
Phil Brown

Hi All,
ZHANG Zhaohong is my colleague. We want to resolve two problems.
One is the reset problem of MAXv8000, the other is the problem of Autosave.
In our experience, Autosave function can save the DVAL and DRBV fields. But
after VME reboot or power up, only the value of DVAL is restored to motor
recorder. In encoder close-loop control system, DRBV is not equal to DVAL
normally. So in my opinion, the value of DRBV should be restored to motor
recorder. Only DRBV indicates the current position of motor, because
sometimes some defaults may cause the system crush and lets DRBV and DVAL
have a large error. For example, let motor run a long distance, and suddenly
the power is lost. I have not the ability of modifying the source codes of
Autosave/Restore. So we hope EPICS experts give our some advises.

About the D6 flash (watchdog reset problem), we have got the message as Mr.
Ron Sluiter told me. Now according to Mr. Phillip Brown's answer, the MAXv
board which has 1.33 or above firmware should resolve the issue. Fortunately
there are more than ten boards from OMS in our hands, which were produced in
this year(2010) and have the 1.33 firmware. In order to certify this, I use
the command:
dbior "drvMAXv"
And get such message from IOC:
Oms MAXv motor card #0 @ 0xF0F0F000, id: MAXv-8000 ver:1.33, s/n:000870,
FPGA:B2:A6 BOOT:1.2 - Oregon Micro Systems value = 0 = 0x0

Now what we can do is replace the old board (1.31 firmware) with new one (1.
33 firmware), wait and see.

Welcome any suggestions.

Hello All,

Yes, the description is that the MAXv is in watchdog reset. Ron is
correct that the best thing is to send the controller back on RMA for
analysis and firmware upgrade to version 1.33 or grater, which should
resolve the issue.

An RMA can be obtained by email (customer.service@Pro-Dex.com) or phone
(1-800-707-8111).

Thanks,
Phil

Hello all,

I have sent messages to both Zhang Zhaohong and
Liu Ping (both from the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics,
but I don't know if these are the same or separate problem)
that flashing LED's on the MAXv indicates the board
may be experiencing the "reset problem" and that OMS has
a firmware upgrade that they hope will address this.

I suggested they RMA the MAXv board(s) back to OMS
and request a firmware upgrade to version 1.33.

There is a lot of communication going on here that
might be resolved by a simple Return Materials
Authorization (RMA).

Ron
