One tool in this toolbox should be an automated test harness that tests
the functions you use on the device. EPICS sites have not done this much
but (as mentioned at the Vancouver meeting -
http://isacwserv.triumf.ca/epics09html/FR1/Automatic%20Regression%20Test
%20Facility%20%28short%29.ppt) at DLS we have been developing a
framework for this.

We are now extending it to testing hardware systems but it is more
complicated than a normal software test harness because you need both a
hardware test system and a hardware system to measure responses or
generate stimuli.
