Janet Anderson and I implemented record aliases into the IRMIS database

and IRMIS Global Search Tool at APS this past April. I can provide you

with details on this aspect of EPICS record aliases if you are interested.

In the EPICS 3.14.11 release notes

there is a section titled "Added record aliases."  This sounds like what
you're talking about.
