Hi John,

If you look at the areaDetector release notes (http://cars9.uchicago.edu/software/epics/areaDetectorReleaseNotes.html) you will see that support for Firewire cameras under Windows and for the ImageJ plugin were only added in R1-5, they are not present in R1-4.

R1-5 has not been officially released yet. However, the "beta2" release is available in source code here:
http://cars.uchicago.edu/software/pub/areaDetectorR1-5beta2.tgz

A pre-built version with binaries for Windows, Cygwin and Linux is available here:
http://cars.uchicago.edu/software/pub/areaDetectorPrebuilt_R1-5beta2.tgz

That version of areaDetector comes with medm screens for the Firewire cameras. ADTop.adl has links to them.

I think the Diamond screens are for edm, not medm. Diamond's Linux driver lacks many of the features of my Windows driver, so their screens would not let you access some of the capabilities that mine will (like Format 7 support).

You might be interested in the Prosilica GigE cameras as well. I like them much better than Firewire because the length limitations are much better (100 meters versus <10 meters) and every computer has Ethernet, but not all have Firewire.

Mark

All,

I have just built areaDetector 1-4 (on win32). I don't find the folder
viewer/ImageJ which is mentioned in the documentation. Advice?

Also, a more general question. I am trying to connect a Point Gery
Research Flea2 to a Windows PC and read it out using EPICS. I know that
others, e.g. Diamond and PSI, have used these cameras on Linux. It looks
to me like the Diamond display screens should work directly with
areaDetector. True? Other suggestions for an existing display interface?

Thanks,

John Dobbins
