We have seen this with every version of EDM we have used on Linux, from 1-10-2 built against EPICS 3.13.2.0 to our current 1-11-1z built against 3.14.8.2. We did not have the problem with 1-10-2/3.13.2.0 (or any previous version) on HP-UX, which was the last version we used on HP-UX.

We get the same behavior with RHEL 3, RHEL 4, and RHEL 5 systems. It does not seem to depend on the window manager in use or on the version of the X server or on which X extensions are loaded.

If you have observed this behavior, please indicate which version of
EPICS base you are using. This would also be nice to have for my testing efforts.

As a stopgap, I will build an event monitor into a future version of edm which will watch for loss of event activity in some configurable manner and at least notify the user.

2) There is a more subtle ongoing problem that (as far as I know) has only been reported here at Jefferson Lab. When an EDM session has been left running for a long (variable) time, the widgets will stop updating despite the fact that the PV values are still changing. There is no visual clue that anything is wrong, unless you can see the same PV's in a different app or a separate EDM session. Usually everything will start updating again if you open or close a display, or even expose a covered display. This issue only started when we moved from HP-UX to RedHat Enterprise Linux. It has not yet been resolved.

We here at the UW Medical Center have also seen this behavior, running EDM on Debian Linux.
