The new "areaDetector" module I've written for EPICS can stream images
to a disk file with unique frame IDs and timestamps. The existing file
plugin uses the netCDF file format, but other file formats could be
supported by writing another plugin. IDL has built-in support for
netCDF, and I've got routines to extract the image data and timestamps.

This module provides EPICS control of the acquisition process, as well
as optional EPICS access to the images for display in CA clients.

There is existing support for the Prosilica GigE cameras, and Ulrik
Pedersen from Diamond is developing a Firewire driver.

Subject: Video solutions

We use synchrotron light video to monitor beam energy and cross section.

We are looking for a solution that would permit us to continually and
simultaneously capture video from these video sources and save it in a
48-72 hr buffer. The goal is to make diagnostic information available
for review so that when we have a problem the beam spot can be compared
to previous spots, beam motion periods can be saved for posting to the
log, etc.
I was wondering if anybody was doing anything similar and what hardware
and application tools, EPICS or not, that you might be using.
