Carl -

Since there is no direct query mechanism, sites have provided this capability in a number of ways:

- Have each IOC dump its list of PVs to a file and then provide a tool that greps the files

- Store all PVs in a relational database (either before they are defined in .db files or after) and provide tools

to access this external database

- I'm sure there are other techniques I am not as familiar with ...
