Bob,

There's a possibility that the Siemens 575 taskcode driver I have might
interface to this, if the S7 has the capability of doing 575 taskcode
communications (I'll call my Siemens rep and check on that).

How are you going to interface to the PLC?  The driver I have currently
can connect serially, or through a CTI2572 Ethernet interface, and I'll
check with Siemens to see if there is a comparable way you can connect
to the S7.

The driver can read/write registers and control registers (which was
all I needed when I implemented it).

Dalesio,

If you don't need the write access to the Siemens PLC from the control
system, you can do a simple FTP transfer from the PLC to an IOC of the
PLC registers. After that you can just parse the file locally.
That will save you $5K+ (price of the modbus hardware and software).
