Hi Zenon,
I have written an epics driver that does just this. I used a
gridconnect CAN-232 adapter, not sure if they work the same.
I had the same problem with communication where nothing could go through
but I could talk to the adapter itself. For me the problem was that I
did not have the canbus side configured properly for the vme crate.
Check the documentation for the VME crate and make sure the canbus
settings in the adapter match what the crate expects.
As far as my driver goes, I wrote it a little while ago and we have
never had the time to actually install the hardware to make use of it.
I will go find the source and send it to you as soon as I can.
Hopefully it works with that adapter.

I bought a CAN232 (EasySync) rs232 to can converter. My goal is to
implement an epics soft IOC to communicate with a Wiener VME crate which
has the CAN interface. So far, I am able to "talk" with the converter
itself (the "V" command returns the version numbers).
I have built a simple "straight through" can cable (using pin 2, 3, and
7), terminated as recommended in the instruction manual and connected
the can232 to the VME crate. When I issue a simple can command I get no
response from the crate.
Has anyone used this device in a similar setup? Any ideas will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Zen
