Hi Kevin,

I'm running about 40 PV gateways here at APS and I do see what you are
describing to some extent. There are times when there is a large
difference between the 2 rates but generally I see that they are usually
within 20 - 60 of each other. The bigger concern of mine is if the
exist test rates jump way up. This typically indicates that there are
clients asking for PVs that don't exist. I think that as long as the
server and client events track each other pretty well then there should
be no problem.

Hope this helps,
Marty

Hi,

I’m working on deployment of an EPICS Gateway version 2.0.3.0 in our system here. I have the gateway running on a solaris-8 computer built against EPICS R3.14.9 with gcc 3.3.6. The gateway is serving 2 VxWorks IOCs on a separate VLAN running EPICS R3.13.10 and VxWorkd 5.3.1.

According to the following description for serverPostRate:

This is the rate in Hz at which events are posted to CAS. If the
Gateway is keeping up, this will be very close to the serverEventRate. If not, it will be higher and all posted events will not have been processed.

It’s not good when the serverPostRate is higher than the serverEventRate. When I look my gateway stats I see that my servoPostRate is a lot higher than my serverEventRate, sometimes by as much as 2x, see attached gateway_rates.pdf. The data was logged once every 10sec. My load and cpu frac seems okay, see attached gateway_load.pdf.

Is there a way see what’s causing this and what can I do about it?

Thank you in advance.
