Hello:

Recent versions of the alarm handler ALH
offer an option "-desc_field" which tries
to read the .DESC field of all records
and adds that information to log messages.

That works fine when all records are located
at startup, but when the *.DESC channels
cannot connect, there are error messages

 some_record.DESC: CAN'T pend description field
    Warning: "User specified timeout on IO operation expired"
..

and it looks like the ALH GUI never comes up at all.
