We've had good results with the Moxa units as well.
We've had some problems with the Chase IOLAN units. They sometimes
don't recover from a power failure correctly, and if a device sends them
binary data they can get into a hung state requiring a reboot.
One thing about such devices is that you cannot use asyn to configure
them (baud rate, parity, etc.), you can only use asyn for I/O.

At the APS we have been using the MOXA Nport serial device servers.
They come in 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 port versions. We use the 5410 4-port
model the most which costs around $400. We've been using them for
several years and they work fine.
