Hello,
I have been using medm for a long time.
I just moved to edm.
I use the adl2edl script for migration.
I need clarifications on the following undocumented features.
1/ what is an action file?
See user's manual available at http://ics-web4.sns.ornl.gov/edm/, chapter 14
2/ I found colors.list and fonts.list in the edm installation. How can I
create or modify them?
user's manual chap 3
3/ I am now using edm files from an outside source. My color scheme
doesn't work at all with those displays. Is there a reason for that?
edm implements functional colors; functions don't change (or so they say)
but the corresponding color may. So its easy to change the color later on.
An undesirable side effect (as you note) is that you can't use external files
that use a different color/function mapping. You may import them into your
environment as follows:
- run edm -color rgb (using external colors.list file) and save the file
- run edm (using your colors.list file) and save the file
4/ What are calc.list and how can I use them? Does that mean that fancy
calculation can be done at the GUI level? Do you recommend those?
user's manual, chap 6
5/ What is an edm server? I assume my localhost should be an edm server
for all of my local edm displays? If so, how can I configure it that
way? EDMSERVERS, etc.
6/ The edm environment (as read through the edm gui) includes a lot of
environment variables. For example EDMXSYNC, EDMSUPERVISOR, etc. Where
can I find a detailed description of those variables?
user's manual, chap 4
however, not all are described; some are similar to k3b's "use-the-force-luke" option.
7/ While we are at it. I have difficulties understanding all of the
options to edm. Are they better documented somewhere else than in edm
-h?
probably not
8/ adl2edl converts my adl files by using the hevetica fonts, which is
too small. Is there a way to select fonts, etc. for the adl2edl
conversion?
i've no clue about this one
Regards,
