there's something like a strip chart in edd/dm
(but I don't know much about it, we use it on the telescope
side of things here and I'm on the instrument side).

If so, as far as I know it is not possible with medm either.
The way I solve this is with FIFO records, a.k.a. compress records.
This solution should work with edm as well.
