Hi,
I checked my other workstations, and they are using the file with
the same date as yours. So it doesn't seem to be the key issue. The 2004
one should work. I attached my file dated 2005, anyway.
Based on my very limited knowledge about the EPICS, the last thing I
can suspect is the environmental varialbe setting. I am not using
AUTOEXEC.bat. I assume that only works for the DOS shell. I did a test on
my computer: I removed my setting of XKEYSYMDB from "Start-->Settings-->Control
panel-->system-->advanced-->Environmental Variables-->system variables".
Next I add <<set XKEYSYMDB="C:\Program Files\EPICS WIN32
Extensions\XKeySymDB">> to autoexec.bat. I excuted the batch file and I can
see in the dos shell--
echo %XKEYSYMDB%
C:\Program Files\EPICS WIN32 Extensions\XKeySymDB
However, when I started the xserver or xming, my keyboard has no
response, although the mouse is fine, just like having a bad XkeySymDB file.
Putting the environmental variable back into where it used to be, things
worked again. That is the last thing I can think of trying. If this is not
working, the alternatives people suggested seems the way to go. Have a nice weekend!

PS: I assume there is no 'end of line' issue (windows or linux format) for
this file. I remember that gave me a lot trouble in other places. But I
don't recall doing anything for this file--this is a windows file.

The date is 2004-11-11 - from X-ming. It's now in Program Files/EPICS WIN32 Extensions

my AUTOEXEC.BAT contains:
set DISPLAY=localhost:0
set XKEYSYMDB="C:\Program Files\EPICS WIN32 Extensions\XKeySymDB"

I've tried setting these in a command prompt also.

Maybe you can email me your 2005 dated file?
Apart from that I simply don't know what to do anymore.

Oh, that's unfortunate.
What's the date of the file you are using now?
I have one dated 2000, which works for my laptop (a
3-year-old Dell) but not
my desktoop (a 1-year-old HP). On my desktop, I have to
use the file dated
2005. I kind of remember it was from X-ming. But I don't
have X-ming on my
desktop. Rather I found it in Cgywin/usr/X11R6/lib/X11.
Also, just to double check, what's the setting for the environmental
variable XKEYSYMDB?

I've installed both Xming and X-Win32(5.4) and I've copied
the XKeysymDB file from Xming into EPICS WIN32 Extensions.
No luck.
Keyboard still not working in neither on of them.
:(

Zhan Zhang wrote:
To solve the 'keyboard not responding' problem, replace the
file 'XKeysymDB'
in the 'EPICS WIN32 Extensions' directory with a newer
version one. The
one comes with the 'EPICS WIN32 Extensions' is too old.
Xming should
have a working one you can use.

How do I get exceed? (For Win32 extensions)

Xming doesn't work - keyboard not responding.
X-win32 doesn't work - keyboard not responding.
