I have installed linux-gpib-3.1.101 on a RedHat enterprise 3 Linux box with kernel 2.4.21-50.EL.  I don't think udev applies to my machine.  I am confused as to which software creates the /dev/gpib0 device.  I thought it would be the NI4882 driver.  Is it?

I think that gpibprtk, nipalk, and nikal modules were installed when I installed the NI4882 package.  Thanks in advance,

Which version of linux-gpib and which kernel are you using? If your linux is using udev, /dev/gpib0 entries won't be created until after the gpib_common module is loaded. See the threads on "/dev/gpib* and udev" on the linux-gpib mailing list:
