If you use --rpath-link, rather than --rpath, (in RUNTIME_LDFLAGS) then
it will look for the libraries to check them during the link, but not
embed their paths in the resultant executable. Of course, then you need
to have the libraries in the default places or your LD_LIBRARY_PATH on
the target, as I believe Dirk said.
