Can anybody recommend me a good GPIB Ethernet gateway for using with
EPICS? I will be using it with a Linux machine working as soft IOC.
I know Aglent E5810A has been discussed on Tech-Talk, but I am curious
if anybody have a recommendation on a device like that.
Also, if anybody have a information/suggestion on using one of these
device as oppose to using a PCI GPIB interface card, that would be a
welcome. In particular, I am most interested in the reliability of
GPIB Ethernet gateway as opposed to using a PCI card.
We have used the National Instruments GPIB-Ethernet (10 Mbit version)
with a driver based on the NI driver package and an older version of
StreamDevice, all on vxWorks. This never really worked well, probably
because of the glue code I wrote to interface the NI code with the
StreamDevice layer. We recently replaced one such system with the
combination of NI PCI GPIB/Linux-GPIB/StreamDevice/Asyn and I am much
happier with it. We are running EPICS 13.14.8.2 on Scientific Linux 4.4.
I hope to never use the GPIB Ethernet boxes with EPICS again. If you
require a small form factor, you might look at the above configuration
hosted on PC104 hardware.
