Kazuro,

We still have four HP-UX EPICS computers left at NASA-Langley Research Center running EPICS R3.12.2. There are no plans to upgrade one of them. We will continue to need this one!
I am in the process of upgrading three of them to newer Fedora Core 6 Linux computers running EPICS R3.14.8.2. However, at least temporarily, we will need to keep EPICS R3.12.2 on at least one of the three HP-UX computers for IOC software development.

Dear Andrew and Ralph,

In order that Ralph's Call For Volunteers receives as wide an audience
as possible, I'm forwarding this message to tech-talk (apologies to the
core-talk folks who've already seen it once). If your site expects to
need to run EPICS R3.14.9 on HP-UX, you should have someone step up now
or we may have to drop HP-UX from the list of architectures officially
supported by EPICS.

Are we the only HP-UX EPICS users on the planet?! I'll look into our resource, but maybe we don't need newer versions of EPICS on HP-UX. So... At KEKB, although I keep two HP-UX machines for some reason and I have installed R3.14.8.2, the versions of HP-UXen are V10.20 and V11.0 ... They are old and normally run R3.13 clients.

Instead, we may be interested in keeping Tru64 and FreeBSD.
Our main client platforms are Darwin and Tru64. We will re-
introduce Linux machines again, partially to replace HP-UX. Other
facilities like Linac, Photon-Factory and J-PARC are using Linux
as the main EPICS clients.

FYI, R3.14.8.2 on HP-UX V11.0 mostly works for me. Somehow,
startup/EpicsHostArch.pl did not work. Other than that, I
simply modified SHRLIB_SEARCH_FULLPATHDIRS in
CONFIG_SITE.Common.hpux-parisc, and it worked. Thanks to Ralph!!

Regards, Kazuro.

Hello everyone,

trying to resolve the situation with an outdated C++ compiler crashing
on the EPICS sources, I found out that BESSY doesn't seem to be able to
support testing Base on HP-UX any longer.

We are in the middle of converting to Linux, the software on our few
remaining HP-UX machines has been in frozen state for a while, so asking
for an update of a compiler to test a software that is not going to be
used on that platform
... sounds a lot like asking someone to waste time to be able to waste
more time.

I know we intended to keep HP-UX supported for 3.14 and I know there are
others still using HP machines, so I'm not feeling too happy with this
issue. In any case I would like to keep the HP-UX configuration files
around for a little longer.

Well, I'm throwing the ball high up in the air and start running ....
maybe one of the KEK colleagues (the only remaining HP users as far as I
know) is able to catch it?!
I'm definitely willing to continue helping with ideas and suggestions,
if someone takes over. No question. But without a current system and
compiler I'm not able to compile nor test.

Sorry -
Ralph
