executed the facility code.  It works!

FWIW, installing openmotif-2.3.0 (beta) from source (on an amd64
debian-testing) went absolutely straight forward for me. In contrast to
older versions of OpenMotif, which had a strange build system, the
latest versions needs only the usual './configure; make; make install'
routine. (You might, however, need to install one or two additional
devel packages from your distro.)

I compiled openmotif-2.3.0 on MacOSX 10.4.8/Intel and it was straight
forward too.

Now I can run medm and edm on my MacBook with X11 from Apple.

To build edm on this environment, I needed to modify
libCom/osi/epicsMutex.cpp. But I don't know if it is proper way to fix
the problem I encountered.

To build EPICS and its extensions on Knoppix5, I also use openmotif-2.3.0.
