I had the same problem on FC5 with kernel 2.6.18-1.2200FC5_SMP.

I tried edm 1-11-0m and 1-11-0p ...

They all behave same.

The debug info doesn't show much information:

Strace shows the program gets into the problem everytime when it tries to load particular font.

So I installed all possible fonts. Then edm works fine for me now.
